Anne Taetzsch has retained her chairmanship of the Staunton Republican Committee in a landslide vote--a 3 to 1 margin. Read the News Virginia's first alert story on this election.

Way to go, Anne! Let's keep moving this party forward in unity and by true Conservative tenets!

Stay strong Staunton Republican Committee!

We go Into the Fire tomorrow. 10am. City Hall.

"I for one am no longer content to sit...and do nothing. Now I say we fight them! We start right now--and may God be with us. We're not many, and yes, we are all of us afraid. But if we do not do this thing, friends----who will?"

David walked into the valley
With a stone clutched in his hand
He was only a boy
But he knew someone must take a stand

There will always be a valley
Always mountains one must scale
There will always be perilous waters
Which someone must sail

Into valleys, into waters
Into jungles, into hell
Let us ride, let us ride home again with a story to tell
Into darkness, into danger
Into storms that rip the night
Don't give in, don’t give up
But give thanks for the glorious fight

You can tremble, you can fear it
But keep your fighting spirit alive boys
Let the shiver of it sting you
Fling into battle, spring to your feet boys
Never hold back your step for a moment
Never doubt that your courage will grow
Hold your head even higher and into the fire we go

Are there mountains that surround us?
Are there walls that block the way?
Knock 'em down, strip 'em back boys
And forward and into the fray

Into terror, into valour
Charge ahead, no, never turn
Yes, it's into the fire we fly
And the devil will burn

Someone has to face the valley
Rush in, we have to rally and win boys
When the world is saying not to
By God, you know you've got to march on
, boys
Never hold back your step for a moment
Never doubt that your courage will grow
Hold your head ever higher and into the fire we go

Let the lightning strike
Let the flash of it shock you
Choke your fears away
Pull as tight as a wire
Let the fever strike
Let the force of it rock you
We will have our day, sailing into the fire

Someone has to face the valley
Rush in! We have to rally and win boys
When the world is saying not to
By God, you know you've got to march on
, boys
Never hold back your step for a moment
Look alive! Oh, your courage will grow
Yes, it's higher and higher and into the fire we go

Into fire!
Onward, ho!

It is time to take a STAND

The Left and the Moderates are unprincipled. It's dog-eat-dog out there. They don't fight fair. But we don't live or fight our battles that way—never have and never will. The tools of our trade aren't for marketing or manipulation, but they are for demolishing that entire massively corrupt culture. We use our powerful tools of conservatism for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of our Conservative Tenets, meeting every loose fact and distortion and unethical practice with the truth of our Conservative convictions. Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building the Republican Party back to its days of glory.

There's a fiercely loyal minority still--not many, perhaps, but probably more than you think. We're holding on, not because of what we think we're going to get out of it, but because we're convinced of the true Conservative Tenets.
If we were thinking of our own immediate self-interest, we would have left long ago.

they go to rwanda

umbau school of architecture is gearing to pull the threads. they go to make life easier. they go to be subversive. umbau wants to take this 'way' of thinking and apply it into the most unexpected of contexts. such thinking will heal, challenge, subvert, flank. at multiple scales, in numerous crossroads, and through inconceivable agendas. there they will go to build a school.

they go to rwanda.

Today, Umbau leaves for Rwanda. Umbau + KaosPilot are working to start a school of architecture + social entrepreneurship there. Umbau will be furthering its connections with the government and the school's visionary, Louis Kabahita. Not to mention, spending copious amounts of time shooting photos + films and scouting out the need + want for this project amongst the people of Rwanda.

A blog will be kept either during or after the trip. Stay tuned at: nellykate.wordpress.com

the conservative paradigms are in major shift orientation

A new way of thinking is demanded. It is time. Our country and state stand on the line of a crossroads. Enter 2008 Politics in the Queen City. We must be ready to risk. So a group of us approached that line at the crossroads. We looked for a special kind of leader, one who has taken initiative, risked their guts out, and has held others accountable. There are not many like this. Too many of us have forgotten that such qualities matter immensely. Enter Anne Taetzsch.

Anne has sought to redefine the word "conservative." Think Reagan. T.R. Gingrich. These reflect a level of excellence and authenticity of conservatism. Anne's leadership is part of that reflection. She seeks to continue to make a difference. Today's conservatives are called to go against the grain. Be different. Shift the paradigms. We must bring the party back to Reagan. To prosperity. We must again have a voice that will be listened to and not scoffed at. The challenge to continue is present. The risk is there. Anne's two years of leadership is risk being transformed into reality.

Anne has brought back conservative leadership to the Queen City that had gone silent. Revitalization and rejuvenation is the key here. Tax-and-media-bias forum. Marriage amendment. Conservatives winning elections. Adult business zoning ordinances. Unity. Community. All scream conservative renewal in Staunton. All scream Anne. Anne and the Staunton Republican Committee are a combination of oasis-plus-launchpad for Reagan. T.R. Gingrich.

Staunton's Mass Meeting is 10 a.m., Saturday at City Hall Council Chambers. Come out and vote. Vote for Anne. Vote for conservative prosperity and unity. Vote for a reawakening of The Gipper. Then let the ripples continue to move out and create change.

New School to Open in Rwanda...

umbau school of architecture is gearing to pull the threads. they go to make life easier. they go to be subversive. umbau wants to take this 'way' of thinking and apply it into the most unexpected of contexts. such thinking will heal, challenge, subvert, flank. at multiple scales, in numerous crossroads, and through inconceivable agendas. there they will go to build a school.

they go to rwanda.
umbau is mobilizing. They are mobilizing a school in Africa. They will travel to a country whose borders are, for all practicality, artificially drived. there was subversion right there. They prepare to bring architecture to Rwanda. The first ever. They will break the mold. ---- But not a violent break as that country once had.

The year was 1994 in April. 800,000 dead. 40 days. Machetes. Hutu v. Tutsi. The UN did nothing. Clinton and America did nothing. The West did not use the word "genocide". We felt we could not afford it. Saying "genocide" means we become committed. It means we must respond. Instead, the West look the other way and played bureaucratic jump rope with words like "genocide". Those who were there, hunkered down in the safety of their armoured fortresses. Machetes have a hard time there.

Enter Kagame. Enter the RPF. Enter hard fought liberation. But we didn't know about that then. We couldn't risk the reporters--too dangerous. From Uganda came the army of Tutsis. It was the Hutus turn to flee for their lives. But Kagame brought the back. Restorative justice - punitive justice = real justice. And through this restorative justice came real change. Let the ripple effect begin. The irony? 800,000 Tutsi migrated back. All are Rwandans now. hooah.

Rwanda is now the safest country in Africa. It is very progressive and education is at the core. Their government is honest and competent. They are like the budding and blooming flower. umbau will go to cultivate and make better. the cultivate through architecture.

umbau and architecture it to push how we think. how we think pushes how we build. KaosPilots + umbau + Rwanda = social entrepreneurship. KaosPilots' Dame Anita Roddick says:
As the founder of The Body Shop, I often get asked to talk about entrepreneurship -- even by hallowed institutions like Harvard and Stanford. It makes me smile that the Ivy League is so keen to 'learn' how to be an entrepreneur, because I'm not at all convinced it is a subject you can teach. How do you teach obsession, because more often than not it's obsession that drives an entrepreneur's vision? How do you learn to be an outsider, if you are not one already? Why would you march to a different drumbeat if you are instinctively part of the crowd
The malnutrition armband in colors of green --> yellow --> orange --> red used in Rwanda = a metaphor for our times. After the green, which is normal nutrition, the slope to red which is, near death, quickens more and more. So goes the West at this point. We are in the middle. We are not red. We are most certainly not green. umbau seeks to mobilize in Africa because Africa = the future. The saying says, "God sleeps elsewhere in the day but returns to Rwanda at night." umbau goes to emmerse this place in design. It is happening.

After 1994, there was no infrastructure. No carpenters, masons, electricians, power, water, economy, plumbers, contractors--ad nauseum. umbau cannot be effective here--in the italian hilltown of its birth. Neither can the West. We must get there to see. The Rwandans have a great thirst to learn. It is time to steer the boat and meet them. The Rwandan Minister of Education has given the green light. It is time. It is happening. READ change.

Rwanda = laboratory. Rwanda does not = colonization. There are enough Belgian structures there already. We must learn. We must strive to adapt. We must play off what Rwanda has become. It is only to go. Only to form. It is to be subversive. Bill Tate, founder of umbau says:
We are much in the way of navigation, improvisation, subversion (in a healthy sense), seeing. We have to play off of fields, circumstances, accidents that are often beyond our control. But we have a power of scent. We read the wind. We can scale walls and ford streams. It is an operational mindset.
We are not talking academic thinking. That is in the past. There is a better way. And it is liberating. There is no reason to stay within boundaries. We must break preconceived rules. For umbau, it is to help and then to disappear. The new school in Rwanda must make available grad and under-grad if it is meant to succeed. For the grad becomes the generator and the catalyst. This type of thinking must be inherited. Rwandans must be able to trace through the tree of influence.

umbau will bring in new categories of thought. It is time to give birth. We must be inventive. We must think subversively. We must think umbau. Rwanda will. It does. The school is beginning. What follows is true Rwanda. What follows is true umbau.

I am told about something that happened yesterday. It says more about this city and its inhabitants than many more grandiose war stories. “Honored’ by particularly heavy sniper fire, one residential section of Sarajevo experienced famine before it hit other parts of town. No one dared to stick his nose outside, much less venture out to the bread truck, for fear that the hyenas and their twins would indulge in a bloodbath.

Then someone had an idea. First, one person managed to get up on the roof of the building in which the sniper had installed himself, and lowered a plastic bag containing a loaf of black bread past the side of the sniper’s window down to the next level, where another person attached a rock to end of the line and managed to throw it to a neighbor waiting behind an open window in the building across the way. As soon as the line had been made taut between the two buildings, probably to the astonishment of the sniper who must have been watching, the bread bag was slid down along the line. Witnesses said that at one point it got stuck on the branch of a tree, but unexpectedly a long pole appeared out of a nearby window and sent the loaf on its way again. Finally understanding what was going on, the sniper opened fire, hoping to hit the bag or the line or whatever he could, but by then it was too late: the loaf had reached the window it was destined for. Deafening applause, shouts of joy, and a few shots rang out from the surrounding buildings.

This is why umbau is going to Rwanda--to set up a studio and do projects where there are none. Where they are needed. It is because we have so much to learn from them.

Alex Davis Nets Major VCU Endorsement

From Aine Norris, President of the Virginia Commonwealth University Republicans....

There are many reasons why Alex Davis is ideal for continuing his position of Secretary of the Staunton Republican Committee. I could spend hours talking about his achievements and long list of accomplishments.

Or, I could simply state this: You will not find a more hard-working, honest, and dedicated man as Alex Davis. His loyal ways and strong beliefs shape his core, while his humor and bright, personable outlook mold the rest.

I've had the pleasure of working with Alex on the political trail and am consistently impressed with his ability to maintain conservative values while still be-friending and appealing to a mass audience.

It is with pride that I endorse Alex Davis, a strong American and natural leader, on this endeavor.

Wright and Manning -- False Prophets?

"For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not."

The Sunday of the Passion: Palm Sunday

Salutation
Celebrant: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Celebrant: Let us pray.

The Collect of the Day
Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The First Lesson: Isaiah 50.4–9a
The Lord Yahweh has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with words him who is weary: he wakens morning by morning, he wakens my ear to hear as those who are taught. The Lord Yahweh has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away backward. I gave my back to the strikers, and my cheeks to those who plucked off the hair; I didn't hide my face from shame and spitting. For the Lord Yahweh will help me; therefore I have not been confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame. He is near who justifies me; who will bring charges against me? Let us stand up together: who is my adversary? Let him come near to me. Behold, the Lord Yahweh will help me; who is he who shall condemn me?

The Second Lesson: Philippians 2.5-11
Make your own the mind of Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, did not count equality with God something to be grasped. But he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, becoming as human beings are; and being in every way like a human being, he was humbler yet, even to accepting death, death on a cross. And for this God raised him high, and gave him the name which is above all other names; so that all beings in the heavens, on earth and in the underworld, should bend the knee at the name of Jesus and that every tongue should acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Holy Week Solemn Prayer Over the People
The Deacon or the Celebrant says
Bow down before the Lord.

The Celebrant then says
Almighty God, we pray you graciously to behold this your family, for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was willing to be betrayed, and given into the hands of sinners, and to suffer death upon the cross; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Dismissal
Deacon: Let us bless the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.

The Blessing of the Palms and Procession

Cantor: Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord.
Choir: Peace in heaven and glory in the highest.
Clergy: Let us Pray.

Assist us mercifully with your help, O Lord God of our salvation, that we may enter with joy upon the contemplation of those mighty acts whereby you have given us life and immortality; through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.

Clergy: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Clergy: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People: It is right to give him thanks and praise.
Clergy: It is right to praise you, Almighty God, for the acts of love by which you have redeemed us through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. On this day he entered the holy city of
Jerusalem in triumph, and was proclaimed as King of kings by those who spread their garments and branches of palm along his way. Let these branches be for us signs of his victory, and grant that we who bear them in his name may ever hail him as our King, and follow him in the way that leads to eternal life; who lives and reigns in glory with you and the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. AMEN.

Cantor: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Choir: Hosanna in the highest.
Cantor: Let us go forth in peace.
Choir: In the name of Christ. Amen.

Clergy:
Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.

Independence from Foreign Oil

GILMORE CALLS FOR A U.S. DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE FROM FOREIGN OIL
Making the U.S. More Energy Independent Should be a Top Priority

Alexandria – Former Gov. Jim Gilmore proposed today that the U.S. issue a Declaration of Independence from foreign oil, supporting four immediate policy measures that will work towards making the U.S. more energy independent while simultaneously creating millions of jobs.

“One of the greatest challenges we are facing is our continued dependence on foreign oil and the impact that it is having on our economy and our nation,” declared Gilmore. “The solution for our skyrocketing gas prices and freedom from dependence on oil from unsafe foreign sources is increased domestic oil and gas production, more domestic refinery capacity and increased use of nuclear energy.”

“What we need is a new Declaration of Independence –independence that will make sure that America’s greatness is no longer held hostage by nations that do not share our national interests,” stated Gilmore. “America must make use of its own oil potential.”

“First off, we need to develop the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) project in Alaska, which is estimated to have between 10 to 18 billion barrels of recoverable oil,” stated Gilmore. “Second, exploration and drilling off our coasts needs to be increased, considering we currently only do so in 15 percent of our nation’s offshore areas.”

“Third, new oil refineries need to be built in America and to do so we need to streamline our regulatory process to eliminate counterproductive regulations that are raising our gas prices and damaging our economy,” Gilmore added. “And lastly, we need to pursue the added benefit of nuclear power, which will not only help reduce our dependence on foreign oil, but offers a cleaner power source for our environment.”

“These four initiatives should be the start of this energy challenge that is facing America and Virginia. The benefit of jobs, national security and economics alone provide a strong argument for supporting this initiative,” Gilmore said.

A Parable for My Cobalt6 Friends

The Parable of LONG GLADE CREEK

Once upon a time, there was a young boy. The boy would would walk to school along the banks of LONG GLADE CREEK. Though the sun always seemed to shine-- there was a portion of his walk that scared the boy. You see, tied up near LONG GLADE CREEK was big, black Dog. He was menacing and had tremendous strength. When the boy would walk past him he would lunge out at the boy, only to be stopped feet short by a strong, iron chain. To keep from being scared, he pretended that he himself was invisible--pretending the Dog could not see him.

The Dog could see him, though. You see, the Dog had a dark SOUL. It was said that the Old Witch Hag who lived on GLADE SCHOOL ROAD, had put a hex on the Dog. The hex made MR. Dog's SOUL turn black. Rumor had it, he had been killed over 51 times but--through the power of the hex--came back more ghostly than before--his SOUL growing darker each time. And when he saw the boy walking by, he would bark and NASH his teeth...the boy would still pretend to be invisible.

One day, as the boy walked along the banks of LONG GLADE CREEK the Dog lunged more powerfully than ever, snapping the iron chain and gobbled up the boy in one gulp!

The moral of the story? Though you might think you are "invisible", others know you are not!

P.S. Your secret is safe with us!

LG Bolling on NOVA Transportation Authority

STATEMENT OF LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR BOLLING ON SUPREME COURT’S RULING ON NORTHERN VIRGINIA TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY

RICHMOND - Earlier today, the Supreme Court of Virginia issued an opinion declaring the Northern Virginia regional transportation plan approved by the General Assembly in 2007 to be unconstitutional. The court concluded that the plan violated the Constitution of Virginia because it authorized an unelected body – The Northern Virginia Transportation Authority – to impose a series of fee and tax increases in Northern Virginia localities to raise funds for transportation construction. In response to this decision, Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling issued the following statement:

“The Supreme Court of Virginia has concluded that it was not proper for the General Assembly to delegate its taxing authority to the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, an unelected body. I agree with the Supreme Court’s finding.

“The authority to tax is one of the most significant responsibilities of government and that responsibility cannot and should not be delegated to a body that is not directly responsible to the voters.

“I expressed these concerns when the Northern Virginia regional transportation plan was amended to remove the ability of localities to opt in or out of the plan by an affirmative vote of their local governing body. The Supreme Court has affirmed those concerns.

“We will also have to carefully review the Supreme Court’s opinion to determine what impact it will have on the Hampton Roads regional transportation plan. While there are differences in the manner in which fee and tax increases were imposed in Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads, it is my belief the Supreme Court’s decision may also invalidate significant portions of the Hampton Roads regional transportation plan.

“Needless to say, transportation continues to be the most important issue facing Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads. Now that these provisions of the regional transportation plans approved by the General Assembly last year have been declared unconstitutional, the General Assembly will have to revisit the issue of providing adequate transportation funding to meet the needs of these important regions. I look forward to working with the members of the General Assembly to find the most responsible way to accomplish that goal.”
