VOTE "ALEX" as SWACiest SWACjob at DWJ!!
SWACiest SWACjob!!!!!
Right now, I am pulling the lead with 42% of the vote. Let's keep it that way. I would hate to take a dive in this poll and end up losing.
Contrast is to blogging as dance is to a dervish. Always honour the context. Go first with camouflage. Then illusion. Then interpretation. Always listen.

David walked into the valley
With a stone clutched in his hand
He was only a boy
But he knew someone must take a stand
There will always be a valley
Always mountains one must scale
There will always be perilous waters
Which someone must sail
Into valleys, into waters
Into jungles, into hell
Let us ride, let us ride home again with a story to tell
Into darkness, into danger
Into storms that rip the night
Don't give in, don’t give up
But give thanks for the glorious fight
You can tremble, you can fear it
But keep your fighting spirit alive boys
Let the shiver of it sting you
Fling into battle, spring to your feet boys
Never hold back your step for a moment
Never doubt that your courage will grow
Hold your head even higher and into the fire we go
Are there mountains that surround us?
Are there walls that block the way?
Knock 'em down, strip 'em back boys
And forward and into the fray
Into terror, into valour
Charge ahead, no, never turn
Yes, it's into the fire we fly
And the devil will burn
Someone has to face the valley
Rush in, we have to rally and win boys
When the world is saying not to
By God, you know you've got to march on, boys
Never hold back your step for a moment
Never doubt that your courage will grow
Hold your head ever higher and into the fire we go
Let the lightning strike
Let the flash of it shock you
Choke your fears away
Pull as tight as a wire
Let the fever strike
Let the force of it rock you
We will have our day, sailing into the fire
Someone has to face the valley
Rush in! We have to rally and win boys
When the world is saying not to
By God, you know you've got to march on, boys
Never hold back your step for a moment
Look alive! Oh, your courage will grow
Yes, it's higher and higher and into the fire we go
Into fire!
Onward, ho!

There's a fiercely loyal minority still--not many, perhaps, but probably more than you think. We're holding on, not because of what we think we're going to get out of it, but because we're convinced of the true Conservative Tenets. If we were thinking of our own immediate self-interest, we would have left long ago.
umbau school of architecture is gearing to pull the threads. they go to make life easier. they go to be subversive. umbau wants to take this 'way' of thinking and apply it into the most unexpected of contexts. such thinking will heal, challenge, subvert, flank. at multiple scales, in numerous crossroads, and through inconceivable agendas. there they will go to build a school.A new way of thinking is demanded. It is time. Our country and state stand on the line of a crossroads. Enter 2008 Politics in the Queen City. We must be ready to risk. So a group of us approached that line at the crossroads. We looked for a special kind of leader, one who has taken initiative, risked their guts out, and has held others accountable. There are not many like this. Too many of us have forgotten that such qualities matter immensely. Enter Anne Taetzsch.
Anne has sought to redefine the word "conservative." Think Reagan. T.R. Gingrich. These reflect a level of excellence and authenticity of conservatism. Anne's leadership is part of that reflection. She seeks to continue to make a difference. Today's conservatives are called to go against the grain. Be different. Shift the paradigms. We must bring the party back to Reagan. To prosperity. We must again have a voice that will be listened to and not scoffed at. The challenge to continue is present. The risk is there. Anne's two years of leadership is risk being transformed into reality.
Anne has brought back conservative leadership to the Queen City that had gone silent. Revitalization and rejuvenation is the key here. Tax-and-media-bias forum. Marriage amendment. Conservatives winning elections. Adult business zoning ordinances. Unity. Community. All scream conservative renewal in Staunton. All scream Anne. Anne and the Staunton Republican Committee are a combination of oasis-plus-launchpad for Reagan. T.R. Gingrich.
Staunton's Mass Meeting is 10 a.m., Saturday at City Hall Council Chambers. Come out and vote. Vote for Anne. Vote for conservative prosperity and unity. Vote for a reawakening of The Gipper. Then let the ripples continue to move out and create change.
As the founder of The Body Shop, I often get asked to talk about entrepreneurship -- even by hallowed institutions like Harvard and Stanford. It makes me smile that the Ivy League is so keen to 'learn' how to be an entrepreneur, because I'm not at all convinced it is a subject you can teach. How do you teach obsession, because more often than not it's obsession that drives an entrepreneur's vision? How do you learn to be an outsider, if you are not one already? Why would you march to a different drumbeat if you are instinctively part of the crowdThe malnutrition armband in colors of green --> yellow --> orange --> red used in Rwanda = a metaphor for our times. After the green, which is normal nutrition, the slope to red which is, near death, quickens more and more. So goes the West at this point. We are in the middle. We are not red. We are most certainly not green. umbau seeks to mobilize in Africa because Africa = the future. The saying says, "God sleeps elsewhere in the day but returns to Rwanda at night." umbau goes to emmerse this place in design. It is happening.
We are much in the way of navigation, improvisation, subversion (in a healthy sense), seeing. We have to play off of fields, circumstances, accidents that are often beyond our control. But we have a power of scent. We read the wind. We can scale walls and ford streams. It is an operational mindset. We are not talking academic thinking. That is in the past. There is a better way. And it is liberating. There is no reason to stay within boundaries. We must break preconceived rules. For umbau, it is to help and then to disappear. The new school in Rwanda must make available grad and under-grad if it is meant to succeed. For the grad becomes the generator and the catalyst. This type of thinking must be inherited. Rwandans must be able to trace through the tree of influence.
I am told about something that happened yesterday. It says more about this city and its inhabitants than many more grandiose war stories. “Honored’ by particularly heavy sniper fire, one residential section of Sarajevo experienced famine before it hit other parts of town. No one dared to stick his nose outside, much less venture out to the bread truck, for fear that the hyenas and their twins would indulge in a bloodbath.
Then someone had an idea. First, one person managed to get up on the roof of the building in which the sniper had installed himself, and lowered a plastic bag containing a loaf of black bread past the side of the sniper’s window down to the next level, where another person attached a rock to end of the line and managed to throw it to a neighbor waiting behind an open window in the building across the way. As soon as the line had been made taut between the two buildings, probably to the astonishment of the sniper who must have been watching, the bread bag was slid down along the line. Witnesses said that at one point it got stuck on the branch of a tree, but unexpectedly a long pole appeared out of a nearby window and sent the loaf on its way again. Finally understanding what was going on, the sniper opened fire, hoping to hit the bag or the line or whatever he could, but by then it was too late: the loaf had reached the window it was destined for. Deafening applause, shouts of joy, and a few shots rang out from the surrounding buildings.
SARAJEVO, A WAR JOURNAL

p. 28This is why umbau is going to Rwanda--to set up a studio and do projects where there are none. Where they are needed. It is because we have so much to learn from them.
Salutation
Celebrant: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Celebrant: Let us pray.
The Collect of the Day
Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
The First Lesson: Isaiah 50.4–9a
The Lord Yahweh has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with words him who is weary: he wakens morning by morning, he wakens my ear to hear as those who are taught. The Lord Yahweh has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away backward. I gave my back to the strikers, and my cheeks to those who plucked off the hair; I didn't hide my face from shame and spitting. For the Lord Yahweh will help me; therefore I have not been confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame. He is near who justifies me; who will bring charges against me? Let us stand up together: who is my adversary? Let him come near to me. Behold, the Lord Yahweh will help me; who is he who shall condemn me?
The Second Lesson: Philippians 2.5-11
Make your own the mind of Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, did not count equality with God something to be grasped. But he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, becoming as human beings are; and being in every way like a human being, he was humbler yet, even to accepting death, death on a cross. And for this God raised him high, and gave him the name which is above all other names; so that all beings in the heavens, on earth and in the underworld, should bend the knee at the name of Jesus and that every tongue should acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

STATEMENT OF LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR BOLLING ON SUPREME COURT’S RULING ON
“The Supreme Court of Virginia has concluded that it was not proper for the General Assembly to delegate its taxing authority to the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, an unelected body. I agree with the Supreme Court’s finding.
“The authority to tax is one of the most significant responsibilities of government and that responsibility cannot and should not be delegated to a body that is not directly responsible to the voters.
