Mexi-merica on the Horizon...

And that's sad. Not only is it sad, but it's wrong.

Sad and wrong.

Even the liberals hate you...

Hitlery Clinton has made enemies, yes. We also know her campaign is running completely on fumes now. But the final dagger in the coffin is that ranking liberals have openly began turning their backs on her and condemning her run for the Presidency. Grab some popcorn, and let the show begin!

"[Clinton is leading a] smear campaign against Obama that employs some of the worst aspects of the old politics. Bill Clinton's ill-tempered and ill-founded attacks on Barack Obama are doing no credit to the former president, his legacy, or his wife's campaign. Nor are they helping the Democratic Party." -- Robert Reich, former Labor Secretary in Clinton administration

"[Clinton] lied 10 years ago about Monica Lewinsky and he's lying about a very viable candidate and somebody who could really bring change in this country [Sen. Barack Obama]. He is embarrassing poor Democrats." -- Liberal talk-radio host Ed Schultz

"President Clinton's inaccurate descriptions of the differences between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton on the war, about his inaccurate portrayal of Barack's comments ... he made about Republicans." -- Senator Tom Daschle

"[Clinton has] shaded things and tried to manipulate the facts in a way that is patently unfair." -- Sen. Claire McCaskill

And if course, it doesn't stop there. The Clintons are in trouble. They have ruined their credibility (what little there is) and have ruined there name (what little weight that now carries).

Child Killer Off the Hook

A new blogger to the sphere is drawing our attention to a very disheartening story that is just coming out. Not the Average Man relates the story of Raelyn Balfour, a 36 year old woman, who has just been acquitted on involuntary manslaughter charges, after leaving her 9 month old child in her car for 7 1/2 hours.

Are we really serious here? Is the media and our courts system really that swayed and that manipulated by a crying pregnancy woman who is obviously guilty and her hot shot lawyer from NOVA?

I mean really folks, doesn't this face just scream acquittal?

California's New "Porn Ordinances"

What's more immoral and despicable that porn shops on your neighboorhood corner? Easy. Military Recruitment Centers, of course!

Or at least that's how it will hopefully be in California.

The citizens of Berkely, California see military recruitment centers as more harmful, evil, awful places that porn shops. Believe it or not, it is true. If this zoning ordinance get passed, the recruitment officers will begin to see more red tape than ever. In a city who already is billed as being abhorrently, radically liberal, I suppose it was only a matter of time before something like this was to happen.

If the ordinances go into effect, these recruitment centers and other private military companies would have to file a special permit. After that, they would be required to present their case in front of a public hearing where a question/answer session would follow. And here's the best part--take a look at these ordinances they would place on those dedicated to preserving our freedom and our democracy--recruitment offices would not be able to open within 600 feet of residential districts, government parks, government health clinics, government libraries, schools or churches. And what is this modeled after? Hmm...PORN SHOP ORDINANCES.

What a foul community.

So much for the land of the free and the home of the brave, huh?

General Grievous Ain't Gonna Be Happy

Yesterday, the Staunton City Council voted unanimously to raise dog licensing fees from $2 to $10. A change has not been initiated in this area since 1976. The new regulations also include a limit of four dogs per household in residential areas and a $100 kennel licensing fee.

For more info on this issue, go to the News Virginian.

Sorry, GGD ... that's a shame. Hope you'll be able to deal with the increase...

Gilmore Nets More Major Support

JOHN VAN HOY JOINS JIM GILMORE FOR SENATE TEAM

Fredericksburg Businessman To Serve As Stafford County Campaign Chairman

Alexandria - Fredericksburg Businessman John Van Hoy has joined the Jim Gilmore for Senate Campaign and will serve as the Jim Gilmore Senate Campaign Chairman for Stafford County.

"John's business savvy and well regarded values and community activism are key elements that will help our campaign on the road to victory in November," said Gilmore in announcing Van Hoy's addition to the Gilmore team.

A long time member of the Republican State Central Committee and former Chairman of the Stafford County GOP, Van Hoy, a local businessman and geologist, has served on a variety of community boards at the state and local level, as well as business and trade association boards.

"It is my opinion we should start with what our working families and businesses can afford, rather than what the leadership thinks government needs and how to pay for it. This way of putting the leadership and governments wants before those of the people is the way of Democrats like Mark Warner, who put themselves first."

"I am proud supporter of Governor Jim Gilmore's candidacy for the United States Senate. As a U.S. Senator for Virginia, Jim Gilmore will carry forth his proven determination of reducing the size of government and the goal of keeping as much of working families' hard earned money in their hands. We are taxed too heavily everywhere we turn and Jim Gilmore knows that. We know that whether we had a surplus or were in a recession, Mark Warner raised our taxes and if elected Senator will do so again."

Staunton Porn and the Department of Justice

The Staunton Citizens Task Force Against Pornography was right on when it came to standing up against the Queen City's first adult business store, After Hours Video. And now, the U.S. Justice Department is entering the battle to keep pornography down and limited to this one store in the city.

Tinsley W. Embrey, the only employee of After Hours Video (located on Springhill Road), was charged with 10 counts obscenity in a multi-count indictment. Embrey was charged for selling 10 videos to undercover agents in October of 2007. Formally, he is charged with He is charged with six felonies and four misdemeanors. And these charges were brought not by Ray Robertson, City Attorney, but at the behest of the United States Department of Justice.

The Department of Justice has been seriously looking in on this growing court battle in Staunton and nd the Department's own obscenity attorney Matthew Buzzelli serve with Robertson as co-counsel.

While no major court date has been set as of today,
motions will be heard March 6 in Staunton Circuit Court.

Shame on You Jim Hoeft...The Cowardice Continues

There stands Lee and Jackson standing like Stonewalls...let us determine to run away and we will live to be cowards another day! Rally behind the radical liberals!

And that's how it's been these past few days. The cowardice of the now, almost Left-Leaning Bearing Drift knows no honor. It was yellow enough for them to pull down their original profanity laced, Lee - Jackson Day post, but now, when confronted with their unethics by Spank That Donkey, they have pulled their OTHER Lee - Jackson Day post down. STD has the exclusive.

You all are quickly becoming an embarrassment. For a blog that used to give some of the big Conservative names a run for their money, these latest antics have you all vying for a spot on the contributor boards of the Daily Whack Job or Cobalt6.

For shame...

Shame on You, Jim Hoeft...

After a sneaky move and taking down his Lee - Jackson Day post, Jim Hoeft over at Bearing Drift has some explaining to do.

( CLICK to activate punishment)

As the great philosopher Spank that Donkey noted, "Both of you came out cursing two very famous American Generals, who tower above the either of you as Officers & Gentlem[e]n, in every sense of the word. Your childish verbal attacks only cut to your own very characters!"

An Officer and A Gentleman?

General Assembly Honors Genl. Jackson

When you get not only RK throwing a fit but Ben Tribbett as well, you know you are doing a good job.

The Virginia General Assembly adjourned today in honor of Stonewall Jackson.

Of course, the radical liberals are throwing a fit. Of course, they cry racism, a "smack in the face", and other such nonsense.... And that's all they can cry, because they simply do not know their history. Perhaps they forgot that today was Jackson's birthday. Perhaps they forgot that they adjourned in honor of King last Tuesday on his actual birthday? I guess they didn't realize that, forgot, didn't pay attention--or just didn't care.

After all, since when do these people care about facts?

Jay Grodner Gets Spanked

Well folks, justice was served yesterday in the Jay Grodner case. The sword of justice is swift and sharp and it came down very hard on the idiot lawyer from Chicago.

This self-professed radical liberal was late to court for the second time, to which the judge bellowed, ""I don't run my courtroom that way!". He then ordered Grodner be arrested and held on $20,000 bail when he arrived. Taking from the Chicago Tribune's coverage of the trial, here comes the best part of the case:

"You caused damage to this young Marine sergeant's car because you were offended by his Marine Corps license plates."

Grodner stood there, hands behind his back. He grasped the fingers of his left hand with his right, and held it there, so they wouldn't wiggle.

"You're probably also wondering why there was a whole crowd of people here, Mr. Grodner."

"I don't want to wonder." [He] continuing in his new meek voice, not in his tough divorce lawyer voice, but the gentle, inside voice he'd just learned.

"That's because there is a little principle that the Marine Corps has had since 1775, when they fought and lost their lives so that people like you could enjoy the freedom of this country. It is a little proverb that we follow: No Marine is left behind. So Sgt. McNulty couldn't be here. But other Marines showed up in his stead. Take him away," said the judge and former Marine.

The final verdict?

The idiot lawyer from Chicago recieved a $600 fine, which will go to a Marine charity, 30 hours of community service and a year of court supervision. If he doesn't pay up in a month, the judge promised to put him in jail for a year.

Where will the idiot go from here? Where else to all self-professed radical liberals dream of going to live? FRANCE! That's right, the idiot lawyer is moving to the south of France to do some traveling--the French Riviera to get some sun--to be precise.

Virginia Federalist Hits Home

The Virginia Federalist takes the time on this day, the original date of the observance of Lee - Jackson Day, to SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT.

Kudos to the Virginia Federalist for standing up to the likes of Jim Hoeft and the Squeaky Wheel over at Bearing Drift--whose post on Lee and Jackson is more wrong and offensive than Hitlery Clinton winning the presidential election.

The Virginia Federalist gets it right and does not waver.

Hooah.

The Lingering South

Lee and the Lingering South
Paul Greenberg

"What is the South?" they always ask. It's a question never answered, not completely, but invariably asked. Usually by some Northerner with a taste for literature. Or by sociology students in search of a thesis.

I was first asked the question by a fellow graduate student at Columbia: "What's it like, growing up in the South?" He asked it in the same tone one might inquire, "What was it like, living on Mars?"

Southerners remain a fascination to others - almost as great a fascination as we are to ourselves.

These days, as we lose our distinctiveness, the question of Southern identity seems to be raised most by Southerners, who return to it like the tongue to an uneven tooth. As if we wanted assurance that we still exist.

We know there's no sure answer to the question; we just delight in asking it - for the comfort and fellowship and pure pleasure of thinking about the South.

For a conquered people, there's always the satisfaction of hating. And so the Confederate battle flag may be waved at a racist rally. Or it may be tacked on or removed from a state flag for separate but equally confused reasons.

Is there any symbol of the South - from "Dixie" to the Southern belle - that has not been commercialized, burlesqued, exploited, debunked, by turns celebrated and frowned on?

Yes. There is one who has withstood it all: Robert E. Lee. Not that there aren't always those who would use him for their own purposes, whether high or low. One is not sure who's worse: the professional Southerners who hide behind Lee or the professional debunkers who are always trying to expose him. In both cases, it is the use of Lee for some mundane polemical purpose that is the sin.

Happily, there is always something unconvincing in such efforts. They inevitably fall flat, like a contrived moral attached to a fable so whole and complete that to comment on it seems superfluous, even sacrilegious.

It's not clear just when the general left history and entered myth, but it is clear that he represents something more than the sum total of his battles or even his life. In the end, it is not what Lee did or did not do that explains his appeal. It is what he was and still is. At least to some of us, the few of us left. You know who you are. And even if we were legion, it would still feel as if we were few. Every Jan. 19, a stillness comes, and vainglory departs. A certain perspective sets in.

It is not his victories that elevate Lee. It is Lee who elevates his victories - and in the end elevates his defeat. It is his acceptance of all things with honor that makes the conventional meaning of victory and defeat inapplicable in his case. He was the same Lee after Chancellorsville as he was after Appomattox.

The historians who have tried to crack the alabaster mystery that is Lee and unveil some complicated mechanism whirring deep within have succeeded only in shattering their own theories. They keep running up against the serenity of the man and the myth and can't be sure which is which or even if there is a difference.

Once fluency has replaced deliberation, and deconstruction supplanted simplicity, of course Lee would become a mystery. His motives seem inexplicable in this time because he explained them so simply in his own: duty, honor, country. (His country was not even the South but Virginia - a concept of loyalty beyond the mobile, modern bicoastal mind.)

Lee's was but the code of the gentleman. But who now can remember what a gentleman was? Therefore we conclude that there never really was such a thing. We assume there had to be some self-interest in Lee, and that we can find it if we just keep chipping away at the marble man. Shard by shard, we will yet explain him until his spell lies shattered into a hundred pieces. Instead, it is we who are shattered, revealed as incomplete, broken and, worse, unaware of it.

Modernity, which is another name for the American experience, is incapable of seeing wholeness. And it is his wholeness that explains Lee's emotion without sentimentality, his mythology without fictiveness.

Lee did not exult in victory or explain in defeat. At Chancellorsville, arguably the most brilliant victory ever achieved by an American commander, his thoughts seemed only of the wounded Jackson. As if he understood that losing Jackson would be to lose the war, that nothing would be the same afterward.

At Appomattox, he was intent on the best terms he could secure for his men. His own fate did not seem to concern him except for the ways in which it might affect others - his family, his countrymen, the next generation.

From beginning to end, his circumstances changed, but he remained the same. And does yet.

If the South is more than a geographic designation, if there is still a South worthy of the name, it is because myth continues to shape her, and Southerners may still be able to imagine what it is to be whole, all of a piece.

When Flannery O'Connor was asked why Southerners seem to have a penchant for writing about freaks, she would say: Because in the South we are still able to recognize a freak when we see one.

To do that, one must have some idea of what wholeness would be. In these latitudes, the idea of wholeness has a name:

Lee.

Jim Gilmore on Lee and Jackson

Tomorrow, Monday, is the original Lee - Jackson Day. With the celebration now being observed on Friday, a battle has been waging on the legitimacy of this sacred Virginia Holiday.

One thing Virginians like the most of their elected officials is a backbone. The more tempered the steel--the better. That is why Virginians flourished and thrived under the leadership of Jim Gilmore. He stood for something and as a result, fell for nothing. Of course, he held (and holds) strong on his belief in our second amendment rights, keeping taxes low, promoting pro-family values and supporting our military.

But more than that, he knew that the history of our Commonwealth was just as important as our present and future. If we cannot celebrate and hold fast to our history and traditions, we are doomed. Jim Gilmore recognized that and stood up in support of men like Lee and Jackson and the cause in which they believed in, fought for, and in Jackson's case--died for. He stood up for the farmers who left their plows, the students who left their books and classrooms, the laborers who walked away from their chores, the bank tellers who closed their windows, and the priests who stepped down from their pulpits. He stood up for those men who fought together, bled together, and suffered and died together--all for a cause they cared so deeply for.

And with that steadfastness, he issued this proclamation as governor:

CERTIFICATE of RECOGNITION

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution in the Governor of the
Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
Confederate History Month

WHEREAS, it was during the month of April that the people of the Confederate States of America began at Fort Sumter, South Carolina and ended at Appomattox, Virginia a four-year tragic, heroic and determined struggle for deeply held beliefs; and

WHEREAS, Virginia has long recognized her Confederate history, the officers and enlisted men of the Army and the Navy and those at home who made sacrifices on behalf of their families, homes, communities, Virginia and country; and that it is just and right to do so; and

WHEREAS, the noble spirit and inspiring leadership of great Confederate Generals, leaders, and the ordinary men and women, free and not free, of the Confederate States is an integral part of the history of all of America; and

WHEREAS, upon the conclusion of the war, many of these same leaders and citizens worked tirelessly to reunite and rebuild this country and forge reconciliation; and

WHEREAS, our recognition of Confederate history also recognizes that slavery was one of the causes of the war; and

WHEREAS, slavery was a practice that deprived African-Americans of their God-given inalienable rights, which degraded the human spirit, is abhorred and condemned by Virginians, and was ended by this war; and

WHEREAS, the numerous battlefields, monuments, museums and other historical sites to be found in Virginia allow our citizens, and indeed people from all over the world, to remember, study and appreciate the men and women of that unique time in the history of our Commonwealth and nation; and

WHEREAS, Virginia is proud and pleased to recognize and celebrate all those who fought and sacrificed in this great struggle that divided families, the nation, and our Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, the knowledge of the role of the Confederate States of America in the history of our nation and our Commonwealth is vital to understanding who we are and what we are; and

WHEREAS, we honor our past and from it draw the courage, strength and wisdom to reconcile ourselves, and go forward into the future together as Virginians and Americans,

NOW, THEREFORE, I, James S. Gilmore, III, Governor, do hereby recognize April 1998 as Confederate History Month in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.

Jim Gilmore is a true Virginian. This is just ANOTHER reason why he will serve us well in the Senate.

Senator Barack Obama Praises Ronald Reagan

Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama praised Ronald Reagan for his leadership and style, which can be found in a recent interview with the Reno Gazette-Journal, and that is great step for the advancement of conservative politics.

Sen. Obama appears to be a great visionary for the Democratic Party. To hear him salute President Ronald Reagan as an agent of change in times when the country needed it the most is a great step for Sen. Obama’s party. Truly, Sen. Obama speaks for his party—he is that dynamic of a figure with his open support and admiration for a man who stood strong for 2nd Amendment rights, our country’s defense, low budgetary spending, right to work initiatives, and his unabashed pro-life stance. That might mean only one thing.

For Ronald Reagan, our 2nd Amendment right was one of the most important we had ever obtained. Reagan once noted, "If we give up part of that Constitution, we give up part of our freedom and increase the chance that we will lose it all. I am not ready to take that risk. I believe that the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms must not be infringed if liberty in America is to survive."

When it came to securing our country from attack and invasion, Reagan would not be moved. Of our national defense, Reagan made clear, "There must be no perception by anyone in the world that we're backing down one inch on the defense buildup." He dealt with the Soviets, increased fire power to combat Communism, his Strategic Defense Initiative averted Armageddon, and his "Evil Empire" speech succeeded where nukes failed.

When it came to budgetary spending, Reagan made one thing perfectly clear to all who were tax hungry:

" I have only one thing to say to the tax increasers: Go ahead--make my day…. Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it…. "

Reagan was not afraid to fight for the right to work. Period. He believed that government should not promote coercive union power. He supported the protection and enactment of right to work legislation not only on the national level but also for the individual state.

Ronald Reagan’s defense of pro-life ideology cannot be ignored. He says, without reservation, “I have often said that when we talk about abortion, we are talking about two lives -- the life of the mother and the life of the unborn child. Why else do we call a pregnant woman a mother? I have also said that anyone who doesn't feel sure whether we are talking about a second human life should clearly give life the benefit of the doubt. If you don't know whether a body is alive or dead, you would never bury it. I think this consideration itself should be enough for all of us to insist on protecting the unborn."

The conservative message, groomed and perfected by Ronald Reagan, is beginning to take root in the Democrat party. The roots of conservatism are being instilled in the party that originally would have nothing to do with Reagan or any of his principles--and visionaries like Sen. Barack Obama are paving the way.

A Celebration of Thomas Jonathan Jackson

Brevet Major Thomas Johnathan Jackson

Jackson began his military career as a brevet second lieutenant in the 1st U.S. Artillery Regiment and served valiantly in the Mexican War. His most valiant stand was during the Battle of Chapultepec where he and three other cannonners held off the entire Mexican army until sufficient US troops could be remustered to push back the Mexicans, eventually winning the day. This earned him his promotion to brevet major.

After the war, Jackson taught as a professor of Natural and Experimental Philosophy and as Instructor of Artillery. Though disliked by his students because of his harsh regimen and class discipline, his teachings are still used to this day and are highly revered.

Jackson was a champion of black literacy, in a time which this was usually looked down upon and in some areas, completely against the law. He was the 1860's answer to a civil-rights leader. In 1855 he opened, quietly practicing civil-disobedience, one of the areas first black Sunday School class. It was obvious that Jackson’s concern for his black brethren was real and something that occupied his mind even at the height of the war. Major Jackson (later Lieutenant General) was one of the greatest men of rank America has ever produced. He was a devout Christian and lover of all men--regardless of color.

A Celebration of Robert E. Lee

Lieutenant Colonel Robert Edward Lee

Lee was a born into a patriotic and military family. With such austere names as Richard Henry Lee, Lighthorse Harry Lee, Arthur Lee, Bobby Lee, Willy Lee, and Jesse Lee, it was an understatement to say he would surely follow in their paths.

Lee began his career as a first lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers. He distinguished his prowess enough that he quickly moved up as General Winfield Scott's aide during the Mexican War. He was promoted after the battle of Cerro Gordo and was instrumental in several American victories through his personal reconnaissance as a staff officer throughout the war. Lee later became a Lieutenant Colonel with the 2nd U.S. Cavalry and served with distinction in Texas protecting settlers from Apache and Comanche raids and attacks.

Concerning slavery, though he inherited just over 60 from his father-in-law, Lee freed all slaves after the end of the five year period in the winter of 1862, filing the deed of manumission from his father-in-law's will. Lee himself said of slavery, "In this enlightened age, there are few I believe, but what will acknowledge, that slavery as an institution, is a moral & political evil in any Country. It is useless to expatiate on its disadvantages."

At the onset of Civil War, Lee opposed secession and remained mostly indifferent in the political world.

Lee served as superintendent of the USMA and as President of Washington (now Washington and Lee) College.

Robert E. Lee's legacy is as one of the greatest commanders of all time in the US Army. Military historians stand in awe and study his tactical brilliance and command style. Of all American generals, past, present, and future, he is considered to be above the rest when it comes to his, "motives, the virtues of his private life, his earnest Christianity and the unrepining loyalty with which he accepted the ruin of his party."

To my friends at Bearing Drift...

...my friends over at Bearing Drift have gone off the deep-end with their views on Lee-Jackson Day. Let me help them out a little bit--

Let's break this down for you all who have the warped mindset of Lee and Jackson defending the institution of slavery...

  • The State of Virginia was the FIRST to attempt to prohibit the importation of slaves.
Understand that no law was ever passed in the North that granted freedom to a person ALREADY in slavery. Not so, in the State of Virginia. By the law that was established in Northern states regarding slave holdings, there could have been slaves in the North as late as 1873. The slaves emancipation process in the North was driven by the impulse to remove, for profit, a people with whom a majority of Northerners had no desire to associate with.
  • The first state to legalize slavery in America was NOT Virginia but Massachusetts.
By an act of the General Assembly of the state of Virginia, the state outlawed the slave trade on October 5, 1778. This was 10 years before Massachusetts and 30 years before the British Parliament. The slaves that did enter into Jamestown (thirteen years after it's founding) were not requested by the colony but were offered sale and subsequently purchased from a ship claiming to be of Dutch origin.
  • What document was the first to outlaw slavery?
It wasn't the Emancipation Proclamation (which, as an aside, did absolutely NOTHING), not the United States Constitution, not the Declaration of Independence (though Jefferson, one of Virginia's founding fathers tried to get it in there, but was rejected by Congress), nor the Articles of Confederation. Take a look at Article 1, Section 9, of the Constitution of the Confederate States of America. I wouldn't lie to you.

As my good friend, JAB has pointed out before, "The good news is that Southern History isn’t defined by Northern ignorance. It merely defines the Yankees themselves.

Jim, you know I wonder why a guy who is a naval public relations officer, uses such foul language. Do you think that represents your branch of service very well?

Bolling Address on Lee-Jackson Day

LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR BOLLING ISSUES STATEMENT IN RECOGNITION OF LEE-JACKSON DAY IN VIRGINIA

RICHMOND – Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling today issued the following statement in recognition of Lee-Jackson Day in Virginia.

“Remembering the past and those who helped shape it has always been a very important part of Virginia, and today we honor the memory of two great Virginians, Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson.

“Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson served as key figures during the most tumultuous years of our Commonwealth. They were legendary generals who embodied a sense of duty, leadership, courage, dignity and strength that should be respected by all Virginians. They were men of great faith and principle who led exceptional lives that had a profound impact on the direction of our state and nation. They were truly great Virginians.

“I encourage all Virginians to join me on this special day in paying tribute to the memory of General Lee and General Jackson.”

Huckabee's Plan for Illegals

Mike Huckabee has said he's putting the hammer down. No more sissy-footing around the issue of illegal immigration. And it's about time, too. For too long we've been to concerned with offending people with our stance. It's bound to happen, and I assume not only has he realized that, but he's just moved on. Good for him. We're going to offend some one, we're just going to have to get over it.

His proposed nine step plan for dealing with the illegals and strict opposition against the proposed illegals' "Path to Citizenship" is bound to cause an uproar...but it looks like the only way to effectively tackle this issue. These criminal aliens (and yes, you're a full fledged criminal if you're not here legally) can scream bloody murder and racial profiling all they want. But hopefully, it will fall on deaf ears.

GILMORE SPEAKS OUT ABOUT
KAINE'S GUN SHOW RESTRICTIONS
Opposing the Heavy Hand of
Gun Control on Private Citizens
Alexandria -- Expressing his grave concern with Governor Kaine's proposal to force private citizens to perform background checks when selling at gun shows, Governor Jim Gilmore sent a letter today to Speaker Bill Howell, at the Virginia House of Delegates.

Text of letter follows:

I wish to express my serious concerns with Governor Kaine's proposal to force private individuals to perform background checks when selling at gun shows. This proposal would abridge the rights of private collectors while distorting the intent of the law.

There is no "loophole" that applies to gun shows. Federal and state law applies to gun shows in exactly the same manner as anywhere else. The vast majority of sellers at gun shows are federally licensed dealers who are required under current law to perform instant background checks on their customers. The remainders are private sellers who are not required in any setting - gun show or otherwise - to submit to the same regulations that apply to licensed dealers.

There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that bringing the heavy hand of gun control down on private sellers (who are usually collectors who buy, sell or trade a very small quantity of guns) will do anything to reduce violent crime. A 2001 study by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) found that less than one percent of guns used in crimes have come from gun shows. Numerous other studies by the Department of Justice and academia have revealed similar findings.

It is clear that subjecting private collectors to more gun control regulations would do nothing to reduce violent crime, while setting a dangerous precedent that all private firearms transactions would be subject to regulations that were intended to apply only to licensed dealers, not private individuals. Our attention would be better focused on enforcing current laws, and ensuring that law abiding citizens are not treated as criminals.

The Hot Air Balloon

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitude and spotted a fisherman in a boat below. She shouted to him, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, "You're in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2,346 feet above sea level You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes North latitude and 100 degrees, 49. 09 minutes west longitude."

She rolled her eyes and said, "You must be a Republican."
"I am," replied the man. "How did you know?"
"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to do with your information, and I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help to me."

The man smiled and responded, "You must be a Democrat."
"I am," replied the balloonist. "How did you know?"
"Well,"
said the man, "you don't know where you are or where you're going. You've risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. Youm made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You're in exactly the same position you were in before."

McCain Sold Out Fellow POWs?

Reporting from the AP, a rouge group has sent out a mailer on the eve of the South Carolina primary charging that presidential hopeful John McCain offered to give military information to the North Vietnamese in exchange for medical treatment. The group, Vietnam Veterans Against John McCain, led by Jerry Kiley lean almost entirely on a shadowy, unsubstantiated 1973 U.S. News & World Report article on McCain. Opposition to this group was almost immediate, notably Ret. Lt.Col. Orson Swindle who said, "Nothing could be further from the truth. I know because I was there." Swindle was also a former prisoner of war with McCain. McCain's spokesman, B.J. Boling, said McCain never passed military information to the North Vietnamese.

Could this have an effect on McCain's bid for his presidency over all? And how will this news effect voters in the Valley?

It's Time for Jim Gilmore.

Having stayed silent on this issue long enough, it is time for me to throw out my support for the candidate I believe will best serve our Commonwealth as the next United States Senator. I think that honor should fall on the more-than-capable Jim Gilmore.

We in the Valley do not take our politics or our political affiliations lightly. We come from a tradition, firmly planted and instilled by the great Ronald Reagan of such unshakable tenets as protecting our second amendment rights, protecting the life of the unborn, keeping taxes low, promoting pro-family values, and supporting our military. We don't want to support a candidate who waffles and gives yes, no, and/or maybe answers to the toughest of questions. We have lived under just that exact bowl of mush that politicians like Mark Warner have been feeding us for far too long. It's time for a change. It's time to bring Virginia back to true conservatism. It's time for Jim Gilmore.

The Commonwealth is facing many tough decisions and issues right now--mainly: illegal immigration, taxes, transportation, and homeland security. Jim Gilmore has the answers to those persistent questions that have been plaguing our Commonwealth.

  • Gilmore understands that the illegals are costing taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars every year. American and Virginian borders must be tightened up immediately and a crackdown on employers who hire illegal immigrants must be enforced ten-fold. This issue hits very close to home as some downtown restaurant businesses hire just those people.
  • Jim Gilmore has experience with what it means to keep taxes low. As governor, he cut 16 different taxes totaling $1.5 billion, created more than 250,000 new jobs and gave the state its lowest unemployment in 40 years. That's what you call an accomplishment, folks.
  • We see construction all around us it seems...and it never seems to be progressing. Under Jim Gilmore, we will begin to see the light at the end of that tunnel. Gilmore's record as Governor for advancing key transportation projects speak for itself. And it doesn't stop there--he's bringing new, fresh ideas to the table like helping to protect the Virginia taxpayer by using federal transportation bonds and private/public partnerships to raise the funds to build effect transportation projects.
  • Homeland security is an issue very close and personal to Jim Gilmore. He lead our state through the disastrous and turbulent times of September 11, 2001. He has first hand experience of what evil is. And he will not let it come to Virginia ever again. Not only a distinguished veteran, he also chaired the congressionally appointed Gilmore Commission which warned in 1999 and 2000 that a terrorist attack on America was eminent and that national plan of response was not in place. After the attacks on September 11th, Congress adopted 146 of our 164 recommendations on national security.
Jim Gilmore has these solid principles and virtues at the forefront of not only his personal, but his political life as well: family, patriotism, justice, free enterprise, defense of our nation. I join him and many others, in subscribing to those tenets.

I am proud to say that I am not only fully supporting Jim Gilmore for Senate in 2008 but that I am also the coordinator for his election bid in the City of Staunton.

Staunton Republican Committee Holds Straw Poll

The Staunton Republican Committee, less than 20 minutes ago, held an informal straw poll for the upcoming Presidential election. With a packed crowd of members and guests, the majority spoke out for one, solid candidate.

From those voting, Thompson garnered 6 votes. Mitt Romney came in 2nd with 3, Duncan Hunter and Mike Huckabee tied for 3rd place with 2 votes each, and John McCain came in last with 1 vote.

As the informal straw poll was being picked and added up by Chair Anne Taetchsz and Secretary Alex Davis, it became very clear--in this informal straw poll, the Republican Committee of Staunton and their guests believe that Fred Thompson should be our next President.

One thing is for certain, whoever the election brings forth as our next President, it better NOT be Clinton, Obama, or Edwards.

The Professor's Response

I recently heard a story from a friend of mine who just got back to taking classes at college after a nice CHRISTMAS break. He is taking a political science class--an interesting class to be a part of in this monumental time in our history--especially if you're a conservative.

Of course, the subject on the second day of classes turned to the idea of civil rights--who gets them, what the phrase means, etc. etc. and one thing led to another and September 11th came up. All the little good Libs just jumped on that one, like they should. "Show me the statistical data that America is any more safe that before 9/11," chided one student who was met with nods of approval and a few, "Yea!"s throughout the classroom.

"Well," responded the professor, "there is no real statistical data as such to prove that," and the giggles and looks of victory were evidenced by a few in the class. "But," he continued, "I've got something better than that."

He said, "Look around you today. The last attack we've had in our nation was on September 11th. We've gone almost seven years without any attack--period. There is your proof. That should be enough."

Good show.

Westerners Abuse, Islamics Honor

I'm glad we have Iran's ayatollah speaking up about the treatment of the West's women. It's kinda like when these crazy Libs start spouting off their over used propaganda rhetoric--it just shows the rest of the educated world how truly ignorant they are.

Apparently the ayatollah is saying that western women are abused and Islamic women are not--in fact, they are honored. Why, you may ask? Well, that's simple it's because Islamic women wear the hijab -- clothing that covers much or all of a woman's head, face and body -- while women in the West are not forced to wear it. Think about that --- forced --- not forced --- ....hmmm....

The wise ayatollah continued on, saying, "...one third of women in the world are beaten and battered by men. In my opinion, this is very heart-rending; it makes one tearful. And these instances of abuse mainly happen in the industrial countries of the West. This stems from men's inborn desire for sexual violence."

And somehow, someway, as with everything in radical Islam, the west is to blame. The radicals like the ayatollah talk about how the wearing of the hijab elevates the respect of women--and because of that, they WANT to wear it. Maybe, but I have a feeling that being flogged for NOT wearing it, is a pretty big incentive as well. It might even trump trying to elevate oneself on the ladder of respect. But that's just a guess.

Please remember to take time out of your busy schedule to thank Iran's ayatollah for imparting his holy wisdom upon all of us heathens in the West.

On South Carolina, Speed Boats, and Paulistas

Well, the big debate in South Carolina has now come to a close. And I admit, it was a great one. I came in about 1/2 through, but still got a good taste of it. Thompson and Huckabee both did outstanding jobs. If only those Paulistas knew what the words "respect", "manners", and "courtesy" meant. Obviously, thatose aren't things their beloved leader and Presidential-hopeful stresses...

...and speaking of which...two of my favorite quotes came from that camp tonight...

First, when debating on the incident in the Persian Gulf where Iranian speed boats harassed U.S. warships, there WAS NO debate. Except of course, when it came to old Ron, there. You have men like Thompson saying, "I think one more step, you know, and they would have been introduced to those virgins that they're looking forward to seeing." And Huckabee warning that if they had gotten closer they, "...should be prepared to see the gates of Hell." Then you've got Ron and his Paulistas saying that backing down would have been the best--they are just little speedboats after all--we don't need another war. Hey Ron--what part of the USS COLE do you NOT understand?

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT:
ROMNEY: "I think that Congressman Paul has been reading to many of Ahmadinejad's press releases."
And, you all can laugh at this next one, asked towards the end by moderator Carl Cameron. After asking most all the candidates questions on electability, he of course had to make his way over to old Ron.

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT:
CAMERON: "Congressman Paul, another question on electability: do you have any?"
Oh C'MON! You know you're questioning that too!

And seriously, this isn't supposed to be a blog bent on bashing old Ron and the Paulistas--but seriously, they need to stop making it SO darn easy...

Good Clinton, Bad Paulistas

I NEVER thought I would be saying this, but kudos needs to be given to Bill Clinton.

Why?

Being followed (stalked is probably more like it) down the main street of downtown Keene in New Hampshire yesterday by a group of Paulistas (ie Ron Paul supporters), Clinton was able to maintain his composure and professional attitude as he shook hands and talked with people on his route. After coming out of a bakery, however, he was verbally attacked by a Paulista who shouted that the terrorist attack on 9/11 was no more than a conspiracy--spearheaded by the government in Washington and because of that, we have no business in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Oh yea.......then he dropped the F-bomb.

To which, Bill Clinton responded--

"You wanna know what I think? You guys who think 9/11 was an inside job are crazy as hell. My wife was the senator from New York when that happened. I was down at Ground Zero. I saw the victims' families. You're nuts."

Antics like this are becoming all to common with the followers of Ron Paul--the Paulistas. And have we heard any public condemning of what was said by Paul or any of supporters? I don't think so.

Keep digging your hole Ron Paul...keep stuffing those straw poles...because you're eventually going to have to crawl into that hole you've just been digging.

Those EVIL Bloggers...

Well, apparently ALL bloggers (Republican and Democrats alike) are now being blamed not only for the war in Iraq but also for the deterioration of journalism. This is according to Helen Thomas, distinguished member of the White House Press Corps. Read more on this here.

I wonder if Hamilton, Jay, and Madison got as much flack as bloggers are getting today.

Thoughts on the Victory

I still don't see how some pockets of America can still feel that we are losing this war. Despite our general being completely right, the proven effectiveness of the surge in Iraq, and the obvious advancements in that country, MoveOn.org-ers and other Dems choose to blatantly ignore it and continue to try to fill our ears and minds with absurd defeatist propaganda. But I don't understand how they can keep these opinions about this war up--especially with this news just coming out. From Baghdad, Reuters is reporting the dramatic casualty drops in the country. Violent civilian deaths in Iraq in December were down 75% from just one year ago. But I'm sure, even after this new development, progress will still be criticized--and any rumor of a possible victory will try to be squelched.

And that is exactly what is wrong with these people. That's exactly what they don't understand--what they don't get. If the legislators in Washington lose their little war (as the MoveOn.org-ers are praying for), they are voted out in the next election. They return to their homes in New York, Massachusetts, and Illinois fat with their profits gained by standing up against this war. But if our soldiers and the Iraqis lose, they lose their country--they lose their independence. We will lose it all. Our soldiers are brave--and so are the Iraqis that have so selflessly stepped up to the task. They have endured hardships none of them could ever have imagined. Defeat is not a solitary crime. It is a crime against the tens of thousands of veterans who this very day huddle together against the harsh winds, heat, and sand of the battlefield. It is a crime against all those who have sacrificed--against all those who've fallen--against all the women and children they have left home to fend for themselves. The duty is ours to bring victory into a reality. The consequences are God's.

A Jerk Named Jay R. Grodner

Sad to see that there are still no shortages of complete and total jerks in the country.

Sgt. Mike McNulty, USMC, was heading back for his second duty in Iraq. He was over at a friend's house in Chicago--backing into his friend's parking space. Around 11am while leaving his friend's residence, he caught a man keying up his car on all sides.

Let's let the official police report take it from here:

Victim related to P/O that as he walked back to his vehicle, he observed the offender leaning up against his vehicle and rubbed/dragged his left arm and hand across the passenger side. As offender walked away from victim's vehicle, victim observed a scratch along the rear trunk and passenger's door area where offender dragged his arm and hand over. Victim and witness stopped offender and confronted him. Victim has military plates and decals on his vehicle and offender made anti war and military comments to victim. Upon P/O's arrival to scene, offender denied scratch victim's vehicle, but did admit to rubbing past it. Victim at this time did not sign complaint, because he is leaving tour for military duty. Offender said they accused him of scratching the car because he is Jewish. Offender's statements/responses to P/O's questions unreasonable.
This worthless piece of crap that messed up this Marine's car for no other reason than a differing opinion on war, was Chicago lawyer Jay R. Grodner. After he was caught in the act and after throwing anti-military slurs at McNulty, the police were called and the outcome is now being fought out in the courtroom--with the scumbag lawyer trying every trick in the book to save his hide.

If you want to contact Jay and let him know how wrong he was for his actions, or are a MoveOn.org Democrat who would like to thank him, here is ALL of his contact information:
